The source in this circuit is at the first switch and the light fixture is located between SW1 and SW2. Three-wire cable runs between each switch and the light fixture. The hot source wire is connected to the common terminal on SW1. The common terminal on SW2 is connected to the hot terminal on the light. The traveler wires are spliced at the fixture box to run between the traveler terminals on the switches.
In this circuit, two fixtures are shown but more can be added by duplicating the wiring arrangement between the lights for each one added. Here the source is at SW1 and 3-wire cable runs from there to L1. Two, 2-wire cables run between the fixtures, and 3-wire cable runs from the last one to SW2.
Also be sure the neutral from the source is connected to the neutral terminal at the light. A neutral wire will not be connected to the switches in these circuits, although some smart switches may make use of a neutral wire to operate the device.
There are two sets of terminals on a ground fault circuit interrupter (gfci) receptacle: the line terminals and the load terminals. The source from the circuit should be connected to the line terminals and any standard duplex outlet or other device connected to the load terminals will be protected by this gfci.
